Shahid Parvez follows his essay of Darbari Kanada with a piece in Raga Shahana, a raga that actually has shades of Darbari Kanada itself (Actually it is considered to be a combination of Adana, Darbari Kanada and Malhar…the phrases ‘Ni, Pa’ and ‘Ga, Ma,Ri’ are indicative of Darbari Kanada). The beauty is that Shahana is a raga of the later part of the night and tapers off Darbari Kanada quite well that way. The quivering phrases that Shahid Pervez masterfully etches shine like arcs of incandescent light in the enveloping night. The certitude that Shahid Parvez brings to his musical statements, the fluency even in the swiftest phrases, the lyricism of the entire effort… linger in the mind as aural poetry
